John M. Storey, 81 of Marion, finished his race at 8:38 pm in his residence.  

John was born in Muncie, Indiana on October 19, 1940 to Mark and Ruth (Silvers) and they preceded him in death.  John was raised in a church parsonage in Evansville, IN, graduated from Shawswick High School in Lawrence County, IN, and is a graduate of the Indiana College of Mortuary Science.  He became a licensed funeral director in Indiana and moved with his wife, Joy, to Gas City joining the Jay and Swift Funeral Home in 1960.  In 1963, John acquired part ownership in the firm and the name was changed to Jay, Swift, & Storey Funeral Home and, in 1979, became the sole owner.  In 1987, John and Ben Needham merged Jay, Swift, & Storey Funeral Home and Needham & Son Funeral Home to form Needham-Storey Funeral Service. In 2000, the name was changed to Needham-Storey-Wampner Funeral Service.  

John was a member of Lakeview Wesleyan Church, served on the board of the Wesleyan Investment Foundation for 35 years and the Board of Trustees of Indiana Wesleyan University for nearly 35 years as well. Additionally, he served on the boards of World Gospel Mission, Marion General Hospital, the Kiwanis Club of Gas City, as well as numerous boards and committees of church, civic, professional, and educational organizations.

Survivors include his wife, Joy (Hardman) of Marion; daughter, Beth (Dr. Dan) Driscoll, Winston Salem, North Carolina; son, Mark (Molly) Storey, Gas City; six grandchildren:  Tom, John and Leanne Driscoll, Ava, Suzanne and Heidi Storey; and sister-in-law, Becky Storey, Anderson.  

He was also preceded in death by his brother, Rev. Jim Storey.  

Viewing will be on Friday, August 19, 2022 from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. at Lakeview Wesleyan Church 5316 S. Western Ave., Marion, IN.

A funeral service to celebrate John's life will begin at 2:00 pm. with Rev. Mick Simpkins and Rev. Jim Sonnefield officiating.  Burial will be at Grant Memorial Park, Marion.  

Memorial contributions may be directed to IWU Wesley Seminary, 4201 S. Washington St. Marion, IN 46953 or to the charity of your choice.

Needham-Storey-Wampner Funeral Service, Storey Chapel 400 East Main St., Gas City, IN is handling the arrangements.

J. Mark Storey

Mark was born and raised in Gas City, Indiana and is a second generation funeral director. A graduate of Mississinewa High School, Indiana Wesleyan University, and the Cincinnati School of Mortuary Science, he joined the firm in 1987.

Having grown up in Gas City has given Mark the opportunity to develop long-term relationships with the community he serves. Mark is a member of the Gas City Rescue Squad, since 1982. He has also served 2 terms as the Alumni President for Indiana Wesleyan University, Marion, IN. Mark, Molly and the girls are members of College Wesleyan Church in Marion.

Mark and his wife, Molly are parents to Ava, Heidi, and Suzanne, all born in 2004. Mark collects antique fire engines, antique fire memorabilia, and enjoys camping with the family.

John joined Needham-Storey-Wampner in May of 2007 succeeding long-time business manager Kevin Batman. John is a CPA and a graduate of Ball State University. He and his wife Shari reside in Sweetser and are the parents of Matt and Emily. Matt is attending Indiana Wesleyan University and Emily is a student at Oak Hill H.S. At various times John has been involved in the Presbyterian Church, Habitat for Humanity and the Lion's Club and is looking forward to service opportunities in the community. He enjoys spending time with family, reading, playing guitar, and traveling.

Alice Uttinger

Alice Uttinger was born and raised in Kokomo, Indiana, and is the proud mother of two wonderful sons, AJ and Alex. In Alice’s own words, “I recently married an Army Veteran, who is the most considerate person I have ever met!” Together, Alice and her husband enjoy taking long walks, riding motorcycles, and sharing family dinners.

Alice truly loves her work at Grant Memorial Park, where she serves families with compassion and care during their most difficult times. Her focus is on ensuring that every family feels their loved one has been honored to the fullest. For Alice, this is more than a job—it’s a heartfelt commitment to service and support.

Shelia Metzger

Sheila Metzger was born and raised in Fairmount, Indiana, and has dedicated her life to serving others through faith and compassion. A devoted wife, mother of two daughters, and proud grandmother to seven grandchildren, Sheila treasures family as the foundation of her life.

Sheila is a non-denominational minister who attends Jones Chapel Church and views her work as a calling to serve both spiritually and practically. In addition to her ministry, she serves as a Family Care Advisor at Grant Memorial Park Cemetery, where she provides guidance and comfort to families during some of life’s most difficult moments. Sheila considers this role an extension of her ministry, offering care and support with empathy and grace.

Her professional journey also includes a successful career in hotel management, which she pursued while actively involved in ministry. This experience strengthened her passion for hospitality and her ability to connect with people from all walks of life.

Today, Sheila combines her background in hospitality with her ministry calling, creating meaningful relationships and offering encouragement to those in need. Her life reflects a commitment to faith, family, and service.

Bridget Shinholt

Bridget is a 1998 graduate of Mississinewa High School.  She met her future husband, Jason, during her Senior year in high school, and they were married two years later on May 6, 2000.  They have been blessed with three boys and three beautiful granddaughters.  Bridget enjoys spending time with her family and friends.  She loves to camp and be near the water, whether it’s at the lake or ocean, or even near a stream.  If she can have a book in her hand while enjoying the peaceful waters, that’s even better. Prior to joining the Grant Memorial Park team in August of 2020, Bridget worked in the medical field for 20 years.  Bridget shares that she is blessed to have the opportunity to work at NSW/GMP.

Lori is a Grant County native. She is a graduate of Mississinewa High School and Indiana Wesleyan University where she earned her degree in Criminal Justice. She worked at Indiana Wesleyan for 16 years before joining the Needham-Storey-Wampner team in March 2019. Her desire is to help meet the needs of hurting people as she walks with families after the loss of a loved one.

Lori is an active member of Lakeview Wesleyan Church spending much of her time investing in the lives of single pregnant women through the Embrace Grace ministry. Her perfect day is filled with Jesus, sunshine and a little bit of sweet tea. Lori’s greatest blessings are her four children, their spouses, and her practically perfect in every way grandchildren; Addison, Boston, Lincoln, Collins, Eleanor and Quincy.

Jose was born in Guatemala, he has lived in Marion for over 25 years. Jose started his career at Grant Memorial Park in 1992. When you see Jose on the cemetery grounds make it a point to stop by and say hi. Jose welcomes the opportunity to meet the families he so much loves to serve. His hobbies include weight lifting, visiting antique stores, Jose considers himself quite the “picker”. Jose has been married to Rosie for over 20 years and they have 3 children.
